Markov Prize
The Markov Prize is awarded every year to a research worker of the Institute for Nuclear Research of the Russian Academy of Sciences for a great contribution into fundamental physics and development of investigations in the basic directions of the Institute scientific program.[1] The prize is named after Moisey A. Markov.[2]
A decision about awarding the prize is taken by the birthday of Academician M.A. Markov (13 May) by the Scientific Council of the Institute on recommendation of the commission of experts and registered by order of Director of the Institute. Research workers are nominated the prize either individually or as a group. They can work at the Institute or in other Russian or foreign scientific centers. The right to nominate candidates for consideration by the commission of experts belongs to RAS members as well as to Scientific Councils or Scientific-Technical Councils of the departments of the Institute.[1]
The period of submission of recommendation papers to the commission of experts is annually from the 1st of January to the 1st of March inclusive. The complement of commission of experts is confirmed by order of Director of the Institute. Albert Tavkhelidze is chairman of the expert committee of the Markov Prize.[3] Christian Spiering received the Markov Prize in 2006 (astroparticle physics)[4] and in 2008, thee prize-winners were Stanislav Mikheev, Leonid Kravchuck, Alexandr Feschenko, and Sergei Esin (neutrino and accelerator physics).[5]
